An Update on Spotify Pre-Saves for Your Lifetime Fans

Spotify just changed a rule that affects how Lifetime Fan pre-saves work. Here’s what you need to know.

What changed

Spotify used to let apps stay connected to a fan’s account forever. Now that connection has to be renewed every 6 months (Spotify announced this change here). This isn’t just a Hypeddit thing, or even a music-tool thing — it’s true for every app or home device that connects to Spotify.

Here’s what that means. When someone becomes a Lifetime Fan, they give us permission to pre-save your new music on Spotify. That permission used to last forever. Now it runs out after 6 months — unless the fan says yes again.

What we’re doing about it

You don’t have to do anything. Every time you drop a song, Hypeddit already emails your Lifetime Fans for you. Now that email also lets them reconnect Spotify with one tap. A fan who’s still into your music connects, and their Spotify pre-saves keep going for another 6 months. This happens on its own, every time you release. You don’t have to do anything. Apple Music and Deezer are not affected.

We also now show you how many Lifetimes are opted in to get your future songs pre-saved and how many have expired. That way you always now what to expect when you drop new music.

What to expect

Let’s be honest. Fans who go quiet and stop opening your emails will drop off after 6 months. That’s the downside of Spotify’s new rule. This is the same for every music promotion tool. But your active fans keep saving your songs — and saves are what tells Spotify that people love your music. Our goal is to keep those active fans, so your total saves keep growing even with this change.

The takeaway: the more often you release new music, the more often fans get notified by email, come back and save. About one song a month is a good goal. Release often, and let us do the rest.
